- Putin declares a special military operation in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that his country’s military would launch a special operation in the Donbass region after the leaders of the breakaway republics urged Moscow for military support in response to what they believe is an escalation in “Ukrainian aggression,”.
Russia, on the other hand, has denied any intentions for an invasion and insists that its operations in the Donbass will be defensive in nature. Following the recognition of the breakaway states, the US and its European allies placed sanctions on a number of Russian financial institutions, officials, and lawmakers, threatening to impose further sanctions if Moscow “further invades” Ukraine.
- PM Hun Sen Sets Nine Guidelines to Maintain Peace
Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen has published nine guidelines for all relevant ministries, institutions, and authorities to adopt in order to maintain the country at peace either now or in the future.
The following are the nine guidelines:
1. Continue to work together to maintain peace, political, stability, and national sovereignty, protect the constitutional monarchy, promote liberal-multi-party democracy, protect and promote the rights and freedoms of the people, and strengthen the rule of law in accordance with the Constitution and the laws in force.
2. Continue to maintain security and public order on a regular basis, reform the national police forces, prevent all forms of terrorism, transnational crime, cybercrimes, drug trafficking, human trafficking and sex trafficking, and other crimes.
3. Continue to strengthen campaigns against illegal drugs in a transparent manner.
4. Educate people about traffic laws, put more traffic signs and ensure traffic order on the streets.
5. Counter money laundering and terrorism financing to ensure the kingdom’s honour and prestige and to contribute to maintaining regional and international peace.
6. Strengthen immigration control, prevent illegal immigration, terrorism, and cross-border crimes of all kinds.
7. Set out the principles and measures to effectively implement the safe village-commune policy.
8. Promote the effectiveness of public services and strengthen the capacity of subnational administrations.
9. Continue to fight against COVID19 by strictly adhering to health measures and living the new normal.
- Cambodia, Turkey to Promote Economic Cooperation – ក្រសួងព័ត៌មាន
Turkey, Cambodia To Encourage Economic Collaboration
Cambodia and Turkey have agreed to further deepen their economic ties. The pledge was made during a meeting on Tuesday in Phnom Penh between a Cambodian Economic Diplomacy Coordinating Team (CEDCT) led by H.E. Prak Phalla, Advisor to the Prime Minister, and H.E. San Chanrithy, Member of CEDCT and High Representative of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; and a Turkish delegation led by (DEIK). The purpose of the meeting was to enable Turkish investors and businesses to learn more about investment potential in Cambodia, particularly in the fields of culture, tourism, and trade. They also emphasized the government’s strategies to encourage more investors and visitors to the country through bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements, as well as the tourism recovery framework, which includes the country’s reopening to COVID-19-vaccinated travelers.
