Japan promises to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN in Indo-Pacific Region
According to a statement issued by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on October 27 at the ASEAN-Japan Virtual Summit, Kishida pledged to strengthen cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in order to maintain peace freedom and prosperity in the region and the Indo-Pacific region.
As 2023 marks the 50th year of ASEAN-Japan friendship and cooperation, Kishida said Japan plans to hold a special summit at that time to take the relationship to a “new stage.”
Also on that day, Kishida is scheduled to attend the ASEAN Plus Three Summit, as well as the East Asia Summit attended by the regional powers.
