According to Reuters, after its junta leader was removed for failing to fulfill a regional peace pact and the ruling military declined to send junior representation, a summit of Southeast Asian leaders began on Tuesday without a Myanmar delegate.
ASEAN highlighted the Myanmar junta chief’s inability to take actions to cease hostilities, open talks, allow humanitarian aid, and offer a special envoy full access to the country as reasons for his exclusion.
However, Myanmar claims that “terrorists” associated to a shadow unity government are driving the crisis, and ASEAN is failing to take this into account.
