Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen sent a letter on Monday to congratulate the 20th Anniversary of the Founding of the Establishment of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).
“On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of establishing the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), on behalf of the Cambodian People’s Party, I would like to congratulate the ICAPP for its remarkable achievements over the last two decades. The ICAPP has become one of the most impactful, respectful political organisations in the world. Mutual respect and unity in diversity are the strengths of the organization,” the premier wrote.
“I would like to register my recognition of the members of the ICAPP in terms of offering humanitarian assistance to various parts of the world, promoting a culture of peace and dialogue, and building bridges of trust within the region and between regions. Trust is the most important asset in peace building and development.”
Vice chairman of the ICAPP Standing Committee and chairman of the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) Khuon Sodary, representing the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), virtually attended the commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Founding of the ICAPP on Monday.
The ICAPP was launched as “a process of fraternal consultations in order to build bridges of political cooperation and establish networks of mutual benefit in Asia” as was eloquently stated in the Declaration of the 1st General Assembly held in Manila in September 2000. It has more than 350 political parties from 52 countries.
ICAPP is currently led by ICAPP Founder Jose de Venecia, ICAPP Co-chairperson Chung Eui-yong, and four Vice Presidents from the Cambodian People’s Party, the China’s Communist Party, the Pakistan Muslim League and the United Russia Party, and secretariats of the Republic of Korea.
During the last 20 years since then, the ICAPP has worked hard and contributed to enhancing mutual understanding and deepening trust, and in doing so, promote peace and prosperity through the unique role and channel of political parties of Asia and beyond.
Cambodia’s CPP has always been actively involved in ICAPP activities and pledged to promote multilateralism and cooperation in politics, security, economy, culture, environment, journalism, and women’s and youth’s rights, innovation and connection to build peace, stability and a united Asian community.
