Myanmar and Afghanistan were not allowed to speak at the UNGA
The 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly was held from September 21th to 27th, 2021. Myanmar’s military regime nominated a former soldier in May to replace Kyaw Moe Tun, who was not allowed to speak by the United States, China, and Russia. Likewise, the Taliban, who is in power in Afghanistan, has nominated Suhail Shaheen, the Doha-based spokesperson, Qatar, as Afghanistan’s new representative to the United Nations.
Representatives of Myanmar and Afghanistan was supposed to deliver speeches at the day of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. However, the new representatives from both countries have not yet been officially recognized by the United Nations.
In this regard, the recognition of the new representatives of Myanmar and Afghanistan must go through the consensus of the UN Credential Committee whose nine members including the US, China and Russia.
Therefore, Myanmar and Afghanistan have no voice at the 76th UN General Assembly in 2021.
