A number of technologies exist today, from inkjet transfers to online designers, which make designing and printing your own t-shirts easy and affordable. Contrast is the difference in *brightness* between colors. You want to have contrast between your ink colors and your shirt. For example, bright yellow, a perfectly good color, is not good for text on a white shirt because white and yellow are similar in brightness. It’s very difficult to read yellow letters on a white background. Dark colored inks, likewise, do not show up well on dark colored shirts. Navy blue ink, for example, won’t show up on a black shirt (or a burgundy shirt, or forest green, etc…).
Another area where you need to consider contrast is the graphic itself. A graphic (or multicolored font) that is made up of a group of similar colors, such as dark blue, deep purple, and black, will be hard to distinguish; the lines and colors will visually blur together. Contrast between light and dark colors will make your graphics easy to recognize.
Size does matter when it comes to shirt design. Bigger is usually better for both text and graphic elements. Your design needs to be able to be read from around six to eight feet away. Keep your text relatively simple, or at least have a major few words that are large and easily seen. People don’t have the time or inclination to read a paragraph of text on a shirt. You have about 3 seconds to get your message across before the shirt has passed by. While smaller text can be used, remember to save it for information that is less important than your main idea since it will be less easily seen.
Balance refers to the overall distribution of text and images on your shirt. A layout is described as being “heavy” where there is a lot of imagery or thick, full, font styles. As the word implies, when there is an area that is heavy (or light), there needs to be a similar area on the other side. Balance can be focused either left/right or top/bottom. As a design element, balance is an area where there is the most leeway for “breaking the rules”. Many times an off-balance, asymmetric design can be very energetic. But for a classic, clean design remember to keep your elements balanced.

Make sure that you inform the dry cleaner about the origin of the stain so it can be treated with specific stain removers.
If the tie is of lesser value than the dry cleaning and you wish to keep the tie, you can try these stain removal tips. These methods work most of the time but not with every stain.
To remove a stain, never rub it. Gently dab it with a clean towel, napkin or cloth. Rubbing will spread the stain.
Do not wash the silk tie with water to remove the stain, the original stain will go but you will wind up with a larger water stain.
If it is a butter or grease stain, liberally sprinkle talcum powder on the stain and leave overnight. The powder will absorb the grease and you can then brush it with a clean towel or cloth. A heavily stained tie may require you to repeat the above steps more than once.
If your silk tie has had an accident with a sauce, ink, juice, coffee, etc., then blot the stain immediately with a clean towel or napkin. Do not scrub as it will spread the stain. Later, purchase a good stain remover which is specific for the reason of the stain. Test the remover on the back part of the tie before using it on the stain. Follow the instructions on the stain remover. This will remove many stains.
For more difficult stains, you will need to first use a mild stain remover to pretreat the stain. Work the remover into the fabric, by delicately rubbing it on the stain for a minute or so. Prepare a cool water bath with a mild detergent and gently move the tie in this solution for about 5 minutes. Completely rinse out the detergent with cool water. Do not wring the tie.
Now prepare another solution with white vinegar (1/4 cup) and cool water (3-5 gallons). Give the tie a final rinse in this vinegar solution. Do not wring out the tie. The fabric may even show a puckering. Flatten a clean dry towel and lay the tie without stretching on the towel. Now, loosely roll up the towel. Leave it rolled up for 12-24 hours. Now roll up the tie in another dry towel. Unroll after one day and you will get a clean, shiny, and well-shaped tie.
These are not guaranteed stain removal methods, but they are worth a try when it’s a choice between cleaning the stain and buying a new tie.
